Grace P. awarded Highly Commended in HART Prize for Human Rights
We are delighted to report that Grace P. in Year 9 has been awarded 'Highly Commended' in the HART (Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust) Prize for Human Rights in the Creative category. This competition aims to raise awareness of conflict, poverty and human rights abuses amongst young people in the UK, particularly situations which are underrepresented in the mainstream media, and to encourage young people to examine and engage critically with human rights issues by conducting independent research and producing written or creative pieces.
The challenge was to produce a creative piece of work about a human rights or humanitarian situation in any of the countries in which HART works. As a creative writing scholar, Grace produced a piece of prose creative writing in response to an article about a fast fashion mountain; she found the photos and facts in the article horrific, and she wanted to address this issue through her writing. Her piece, Dead White Man’s Clothes, was awarded 'Highly Commended' in the Junior Category (Ages 11-14). Congratulations to Grace for this thoughtful and timely piece.
