GCSE Drama practical examinations
On Monday 25 April our biggest cohort yet of GCSE Drama students took to the stage to perform their Unit 3 examination pieces, based on this year’s examination theme of consequences.
The girls brilliantly rose to the challenge, presenting a real range of performances from scripted pieces, including thought-provoking and challenging plays such asKindertransport and Girls Like That, to cleverly devised pieces on reckless driving, the Suffragettes’ movement and prisons. The day concluded with a comedy performance based on Strangers on a Train. The audience of Year 10 Drama students was bowled over by how original and imaginative the performances were.
As ever, the girls impressed with how well they worked together as a team – it’s no easy feat to put on six shows in one day, but the students supported and encouraged each other backstage to ensure the day was a success. The day was a real celebration of the Drama students’ efforts, and skills as writers, performers and creative directors. Huge thanks to our Drama department for co-ordinating such an enjoyable examination day for our girls and to our technician, Joe, who lit the pieces beautifully and worked incredibly hard to cue all the sound effects and music. We are excited to have the largest cohort of girls to date staying on at St Mary’s School, Cambridge to study the Drama and Theatre Studies A Level course next year.
