GCSE Art students develop their coursework theme ‘Landscape and Vista in Southwold!
Thirty eight St Mary's students taking GCSE Art were invited to take part in a field trip on Friday 13 September to Southwold. This enabled them to explore and develop their coursework theme ‘Landscape and Vista’. This focus of this study trip was not to see other artists’ work, but instead to see student develop their own artwork informed by primary source experiences- something the examination boards are keen to promote and reward.
The students completed ‘en plein air’ drawings and photographed the many landscapes on offer at Southwold from the golden sand beach, to the green pasture. The students were able to explore the pier, beach huts, sand dunes, fields, and boatyards. This provided them all with a unique experience and resources.
‘Visiting a place such as Southwold allows our students to develop artwork in situ, therefore translating direct experience into creative outcomes’. Ms Conroy
After a full day, the students enjoyed some well-earned chips from the local chip shop, and, of course, an obligatory ice cream!
