Four wins bring the Winter League rowing season to a close
St Mary's crews bought home four wins on Sunday, at the culmination of the Cambridge Winter League. Raced over three head races, the Winter League is the annual staple of the Cambridge rowing calendar and acts as a marker of winter training progress for our rowers.
With the third leg being restricted to senior crews due to flooding, the results from the first two legs were used to decide the junior events. First there were wins in WJ15 and WJ16 singles for Joelle A. in Year 10 and Emerson A. in Year 11, with Joelle setting the fastest time from all Women’s junior scullers in the second leg.
There was also a win for Anna T. and Eilidh H., both in Year 9, in WJ14/15 doubles, setting the fastest time for any women’s double for the event in the process.
Finally, there was a win in WJ16 coxless quads for Year 11 students Jessica A., Hannah T.H., Georgia L., Emerson A. and Olivia H., with some rotation between the two legs. There were also good results for our WJ15 4x+ who did not have any competition and our WJ18 4+ who raced in leg one as part of their preparation for the Schools Head of the river race on Friday 17th March.
Oliver Frazer, coach said:
"With a big weekend of national level racing approaching, which marks the end of the winter race season, these results were a nice boost and a great send off before taking on some of the best school and club crews in the country."
Rowing at St Mary's is open to all girls in Year 7-13.
