Forest School comes to St Mary's School, Cambridge
The grey and stormy weather has not deterred us from our plan to introduce the Forest Schools programme to the Junior School this year.
The programme, from the Forest School Association, is an approach to teaching and learning that offers students regular opportunities to develop self-esteem through learning experiences in the great outdoors. The scheme aims to enhance team work skills, develop independence and instil creativity and we are confident it will be an inspirational addition to an already rich curriculum at St Mary’s Junior School, Cambridge.
Each class will have two sessions per term, at first led by either Miss Shale or Ms Freebairn, thereafter by their class teacher and assisted by a Learning Support Assistant (LSA).
We also look forward to the installation of a welly storage unit between Acton House and the Coach House courtesy of the PTA. This will mean the girls can leave their wellies in school and use the woods and lawn for playtimes throughout the winter as well as for use during Forest School sessions.
