Euge! Winners of the Latin play competition
On Thursday 26 May Year 8 students entered – and won – the annual ‘ludi scaenici’ Latin play competition at the Perse School. The group’s play told the story of the characters they study as part of their Latin course, imagining their lives after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. The students worked very hard to learn their lines, pronounce the words accurately and convey the story through convincing acting. Six schools competed, and the standard was very high. Happily, the group were awarded the first place prize, with the judges praising the whole cast for their accuracy and enjoyment, particularly commending Eve R., who played Grumio, for her excellent dramatic flair. The efforts of the backstage team were also recognised, for the professionalism with which they managed scene changes and props. Congratulations to everyone involved – euge! (Hurray!)
