Eco-art week
We had to tread carefully around school last week as junk filled the corridors. We enjoyed our first ever Eco-art Week. Each class was tasked with turning junk into something beautiful and useful. The classrooms have been full of industry, as old junk has been recycled into beautiful works of art. It is hard to believe the quality and diversity of the sketchbooks that have been created from old cardboard, paper and scrap materials. Our aim is for the girls to think more about the waste we generate on a daily basis and its impact on the environment, and the girls’ have been wonderfully inspired and creative. Year 1 pupils looked at beautiful old handbags before designing their own out of magazines, newspaper, party plates and old ribbons and buttons; Year 3 girls created ornamental gardens and sock puppets out of recycled rubbish; and the girls in Year 4 sorted through recycled items to see what kind of 'junk jewellery' they could make. Every girl in Year 5 was given an old shoe to turn into a work of art – the girls’ designs included creating a dalek from a flip flop, to giving an ankle boot some wings.
