Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award assessed expedition
On Monday 3 April a group of Year 11 students embarked on their Duke of Edinburgh’s Silver Award assessed expedition. The girls spent three nights in the beautiful setting of the Yorkshire Dales. On the first day of the expedition each group completed an orientation walk around the Malham area, with most of the students climbing up to the limestone pavement at the top of Malham Cove to take in the stunning views. The groups then hiked from Malham to Threshfield on the Tuesday, carrying all of their food and equipment with them. The girls set off from Threshfield and walked to Appletreewick, and in the evening cooked on trangia stoves and shared tents under the starry skies. Waking up on the final morning on Thursday at Appletreewick the girls were surprised to wake up to ice on the tent, but packed up and set off for Bolton Abby, arriving in the afternoon. The girls were exhausted but in high spirits after all successfully and safely finishing the expedition.
