Debbie the fabulous illustrator
For the second year running, local illustrator Debbie Bellaby paid a visit to our Year 4 pupils to support them with their learning. The group’s book study this term is Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and the girls have also been paying close attention to Quentin Blake’s illustrations in the book. Debbie came in to speak to the girls and ran a workshop looking at illustration, as part of the girls’ Art learning.
The girls have tried their hands at Blake’s style of drawing and created some lovely results, thanks to the brilliant drawing session from Debbie – with one of the main rules being that erasers are not permitted in sketch books!
Debbie has illustrated various children’s books such as Fred the Fabulous Flamingo, and she kindly shared some tips with our Year 4 teachers on great ways to teach drawing. She also shared her portfolio with the group and talked to the girls about the professional process of creating illustrations for published work.
