Debating debut goes down a storm
Year 10 girls Pippa, Imogen and Isabelle took part in a friendly and timely debate on Brexit yesterday at The Leys.
The girls are new to debating and had worked very hard preparing for the debate. They received the motion just before half term, and spent their lunchbreaks this week preparing for their debating debut. They were joined by a team of loyal supporters.
They did extremely well and all the teachers from The Leys said that they were an exceptionally strong team and that we should definitely enter them for competitions: they couldn't believe that this was their first attempt at a formal debate. We now feel encouraged and inspired to grow our Society even more and enter competitions in the future, and we have learnt a great deal.
While the judge from The Leys had total marks in favour of St Mary's, the St Mary's judge had total marks in favour of The Leys. When the marks were added together, The Leys had two more marks and so were officially the winners. However, everyone seemed to agree that St Mary's were a very strong team, and we look forward to taking part in more debating competitions in the future.
