Cultural trip to Norwich
On Sunday 20 September our Year 10 boarders visited Norwich as one of the boarders’ compulsory cultural trips of the year. The group visited the cathedral and the castle and were very interested in the Roman architecture. What caught their attention most was a sculpture by the artist Ana Maria Pacheco, which recalls the tale of Aeneas; he carries his father Anchises from the ruins of Troy, and the sculpture powerfully resonates with the current issue of displaced people. It provided a moment of reflection on the purpose and the power of artistic creations.
At the castle they completed a trail which allowed them to discover the different galleries, ranging from wild animals to fashion. The group was most interested in an exhibition on Edith Cavell, a British nurse from the First World War. Edith is celebrated for saving the lives of soldiers from both sides of the conflict without distinction and for helping over 200 allied soldiers escape from German-occupied Belgium. She made daring and audacious decisions and as such is an excellent inspiration. The girls will learn more about Edith Cavell during their boarders’ meeting ahead of International Women’s Day.
