CoSpace success for Year 6
On Thursday 13 January 14 of our Year 6 girls participated in the CoSpace Virtual Robotics Improvers' Day – the second stage of the UK National CoSpace Championships, which culminates in a Grand Final in June.
The focus of the day was using text-based coding to program an on-screen robot, rather than the graphical interface that was used during the first stage of the championships in October. Following a workshop session in the morning, during which the girls learnt the basics of the C++ programming language, the teams had two hours to program their robot to compete against another team's robot and collect as many coloured objects as possible. All of the objects had to be deposited in the orange 'drop zone' before the end of the competition time and bonus points were awarded for specific actions. Many congratulations to our Year 6 teams who finished in second and third places overall – out of 70 contesting teams – missing out on first place by just 20 points. We now hope to see the girls progress to the Grand Final in June.
