Chamber Concert
Our annual Chamber Music concert - always a highlight in our musical calendar - took place on Tuesday 26 March at the beautiful Emmanuel United Reformed Church. The evening featured performances from all our smaller chamber ensembles: our chamber choir Allegro, our string quartet, our flute choir "Tutti Flutti" and our clarinet ensemble "Reed all About it", a new recorder ensemble "Recorder Madness". Two very talented soloists also performed: winner of the Intermediate Class of our Young Pianist of the Year competition Isabella R-L, who performed an Arabesque by Karganov, and Year 11 GCSE Musician, joint-winner of Young Pianist of the Year and talented singer Mia R-B who gave an expressive account of "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" from Sondheim's musical "Sweeney Todd". Mia has recently been awarded a distinction in her ABRSM grade 8 singing!
Audience members commented on the exceptionally high standard of the performances as well as the broad range of repertoire - a lovely balance of sacred, classical, modern, profound and humourous. Our thanks to the wonderful peripatetic teachers, musical alumna Henrietta M. (currently reading Music at the University of Cambridge) who returned to her alma mater to perform a duet with one of our budding GCSE violinists (Eunice R.), and Mrs Fisher for preparing such an enjoyable programme. Grateful thanks also to Mrs Gears for all her practical and logistical support. A fantastic evening was had by all!
