Boarders 'Wellcome' a trip to the British Library
On Saturday 21 November our boarders travelled to London to visit the British Library and the Wellcome collection. At the British Library the group spent time in the West African and Alice in Wonderland exhibitions – the first taking the girls through the political and cultural changes that have shaped West Africa since the countries gained their independence and put African cinema and literature on the international scene. The Alice in Wonderland exhibition (marking 150 years since the publication of Lewis Carroll’s renowned tale) explores how Alice captured our imaginations for so many years.
Across the road, at the Wellcome collection, the girls looked at the permanent exhibition on medicine, as well as the'Tibet’s Secret Temple’ exhibition, which explores Tibetan Buddhist yogic and meditational practices and their connection to physical and mental wellbeing. The exhibition ends with a talk on mindfulness and our younger boarders (who have a mindfulness practice every Wednesday) were pleased to hear the benefits of mindfulness explained scientifically, noticing they could relate to some of the benefits they learned about.
