Boarder's Christmas festivities
Last Friday night Sixth Form boarders had their first Christmas meal out. In what we hope will become an annual tradition the boarders chose where they wanted to go for their end of term meal. Boarding staff and girls donned their glad rags and went to Wagamama to enjoy a delicious two course meal before returning to school to enjoy a pudding of ice cream and cake. Talks about where to go for next year’s Christmas meal have already begun!
The following day, on the eve of St Nicholas day, the boarders’ Christmas meal took place. The girls enjoyed a partially vegetarian Christmas dinner, following the saying of Grace by Head Boarder Heidi A., who invited her peers to appreciate the wonder of Christmas and how fortunate the girls are. The group also prayed for the environment committee who met in Paris this month that they should have the vision and influence to make decisions which will have a positive impact on climate change.
During the dinner, the boarders had to write an acrostic poem. The winning table wrote the acrostic below.
Christie is a girl in Bateman [House]
Happy as can be
Rowing down the River Cam
In sweet harmony
Swiftly down the river
Towards the river bank
Merrily as can be
A Christmas star she then did see
Shining brightly in the sky;
Fantastic sight to see
Oh! How beautiful it is, she said
Reaching the shining
Touching the brightness
Humbled by this holy sight
Everlasting light
Bateman under the starry sky
Oh! How beautiful it is, she said
Amazed by the star, she
Raced back to Bateman
Delighted as can be
Everyone to tell
Retelling her story to all who were there;
Star of wonder on Christmas night.
