Biome books
This term Year 9 students have been studying ecosystems and biomes (large communities of plants and animals, which occupy distinct regions) in their Geography lessons, focusing on the location of different climate zones, vegetation types and animals that live in these ecosystems. In groups the Year 9 students created pop-up biome books to read to Reception and Year 1 pupils in the Junior School. The students wanted to show the younger girls the type of topics studied in the Senior School.
Some of the topics were coral reefs, the Arctic, Antarctica, and the Savannah grasslands, and the girls included plenty of interesting facts, as well as interactive details in their books. The younger pupils lifted flaps, read pop outs, and had to act on instructions including having a go at traditional Inuit games. The Year 9 students enjoyed the opportunity to visit the Junior School and spend time with the younger girls, and the pupils in Reception and Year 1 were extremely welcoming and took part in the activities with great enthusiasm.
