Bella Voce triumphs at the 2025 GSA Choir of the Year

In an extraordinary celebration of talent and hard work, the Bella Voce Junior School Choir has been awarded GSA Junior Choir of the Year 2025, a remarkable achievement that highlights the dedication, passion and skill of the pupils involved. This prestigious award, presented by the Girls School Association (GSA), is a testament to the choir’s relentless commitment to excellence, months of rehearsals and the determination of every single member.

Bella Voce, made up of 26 girls from across Year 5 and Year 6, competed in the highly anticipated GSA Junior Choir of the Year competition, held at Warwick School. The competition featured 6 choirs from six schools, all for the coveted title. Although this was a competition, it was also an opportunity to showcase the high quality of choral singing across the UK within all girls’ schools. With only eight minutes to showcase their talents, Bella Voce had to prepare a repertoire that was not only challenging but also showcased the pupils’ versatility.

The final performance featured two pieces. The first piece was ‘Jabberwocky’, a 3-part piece based on Lewis Carroll’s nonsense poem, composed by Carolyn Jennings. This piece was a highlight of the performance, full of energy and playful dynamics that captivated both the judges and the audience. Bella Voce’s second piece, ‘How Can You Catch the Wind’ by Dan Walker, showcased the choir’s talents.

To finish, the choirs rehearsed and performed together ‘I Wish I Knew How It Feels to Be Free’, a mass piece about freedom and equality.

Mrs Dudley, Head of Junior School Music said:

“The girls sang with passion, emotion, strength, focus and musicality and I couldn't possibly be more proud of each and every one of them. We are so proud to have won this award and to have represented our school with pride. As always, a very big thank you to Mr Severy who accompanied our performance and to all of the parents and staff who supported us on the day. This competition has given us an opportunity to celebrate all girls' voices and the amazing things that girls can do.”

For the members of Bella Voce and Mrs Dudley, Head of Junior School Music, this victory represents more than just an award – it is a celebration of their hard work, enthusiasm and unwavering passion for music. The choir’s achievement serves as a reminder of the power of teamwork and dedication, and it highlights the incredible talent nurtured at the Junior School.

Congratulations to Bella Voce for their well-deserved win and for showing that with dedication and passion, anything is possible!
