Art Scholars take part in workshops at Kettle's Yard
Fourteen Art scholars from Years 7 - 13 took a day trip to Kettle’s Yard house and gallery on 17 October with Head of Art Ms Conroy and librarian Ms Jasko. Kettle’s Yard is a beautiful house in Cambridge, with a distinctive collection of 20th century art, and a gallery exhibiting contemporary and modern art. It also has a large educational studio space in which to deliver bespoke workshops. The art scholars enjoyed a chance to visit the house and undertake some unique drawing activities. They also had the opportunity to photograph artefacts, furnishings and artworks.
They took part in a print-making workshop based around ecological art with master’s graduate Kaitlin Ferguson, looking at mono-print, relief print, and poly-board techniques. Ferguson’s work uses landscapes and the environment to explore our dialogue with nature. She often uses recycled materials, found objects and studies of natural forms in her work. At St Mary’s School we too want to explore how we can create art that reflects our relationship with the environment and how we can help reduce waste.
After a day of creating and making the student were able to enjoy a tour of the gallery's current exhibition ‘The Cambridge Show’. This exhibition brings together the work of twenty-two artists who are based in or around the Cambridgeshire area and includes everything from performance art to photography.
