Art Exhibition wows guests
On 13 June we were delighted to welcome students’ friends and family to our annual Art Exhibition, which showcased art from Key Stage 3 up to A Level. Artwork displayed included the Year 7 sweets project, the Year 8 cityscape project as well as the Year 9 natural forms project. 24 GCSE Art students exhibited work, along with 8 A Level Art students and 4 A Level Photography students. For the first time the Digital Art Suite was open, where we displayed work by students who had taken part in extra-curricular Digital Art and Graphic sessions. The standard of work was exceptionally high, and the 130 guests were extremely impressed with the more than 500 pieces of artwork which were mounted and hung for the exhibition.
This year has been very successful for the St Mary’s Art department. Earlier in the year several of our students won prizes at the national ‘Better Lives’ photo competition run by the Economic and Social Research Council. More recently, an A Level Art student was commissioned by the North West Region of the Association of Catholic Women to create a painting for their annual gathering in London in the autumn of 2019.
