An enchanted evening
On Friday 3 March, for four hours, Year 11 students enjoyed celebrating together at their Year 11 ball, which this year was themed ‘the enchanted island’. Named after one of Louis XIV’s grand occasions, the theme for the ball this year was Versailles inspired and treated the girls to a lavish and luxurious evening.
The students were greeted at the front of the school with blazing torches and a fire dancer, giving them the opportunity to have some fantastic photographs on arrival. The dining room, hall, cortile and surrounding corridors had all been decorated in a grand manner with the dining room resembling a very formal setting with some interesting 17th century inspired portraits (of members of staff…) decorating the venue. The surrounding corridors had been decorated like an indoor garden with all of the students wanting to keep the décor all year round. A grand fountain in the cortile garden lent colour and style to the event and the hall itself was transformed into our very own ‘hall of mirrors’.
The school catering team produced some fantastic food for the evening with students being greeted by canapés before enjoying a sit down meal together. The profiterole dessert was a particular favourite and students were then able to enjoy the entertainment which was provided for after dinner.
Students loved dancing on their very own black and white chequered floor in the hall and some very much enjoyed the professional casino which was set up in the cortile area. The girls also had the chance to have individual and group photographs with a professional photographer throughout the evening.
It was an immensely enjoyable evening indeed. Thank you to all of the staff who had given up their time to support the event; to the students who spoke of how they had had nothing but fun and loved all that had been provided for them; and to Mr Paul Mallabone for all of his efforts in pulling off such a treat for the students.
