Alumna Cally Chan wins International Design & Architecture Award
On 17 September 2021, St Mary’s alumna Cally Chan won an International Design & Architecture Award in the category of fabric for her company, Coltex Furnishing. These prestigious awards, hosted at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London, celebrate the world's best interior design, architecture and product designers. Their success is richly deserved, celebrating their innovative fabric designs.
Set up in 2015, Coltex textiles feature minimal weaving patterns in fresh and modern styles. The company was a labour of love, undertaken by Cally and her husband, Jacky Hung. Having met while Jacky was studying in Warwick, and Cally was studying in Chelsea College of Art and Design, the couple founded Coltex after the birth of their son, inspired to provide him with the best surroundings that they could.
Cally says that her time at St Mary’s was instrumental to her career today:
‘All the support I had in St Mary School has made who I am right now. The school has given me unlimited resources to expand my creative ideas, which gave me a solid foundation to later study at Chelsea College of Art and Design and start my creative career.’
You can see their work on display in their showroom in Hong Kong below.
The couple have also been involved in the First Initiative Foundation, a charity that supports and organises local initiatives to benefit the arts, education, community welfare and promotion of Hong Kong’s unique culture on the world stage.
