A vibrant showcase of Senior School students’ work

Last night marked the seventh annual Technology showcase and fashion show, which began with an entrée of food prepared by Year 7 and Year 8 students.

Parents, friends, teachers and students were presented with a tremendous amount of work throughout the evening, rounded off by the fashion show. Initially, as parents were greeted in the Cortile, they had the pleasure of looking round the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) exhibition, which led onto the Computer Science display in the dining area.

As guests walked around, the work of Year 7 and Year 8 Textiles students dressed the walls. Year 7 students had been focusing on collaged cushion covers inspired by artist Sue Wademan, and Year 8 students had made shorts inspired by a culture of their own choice. Also showcased on the walls were the elaborate skirts the Year 9 students had been making: all of which were worn on the catwalk. The Year 9 Textiles students had been asked to investigate an artist of their choice and apply their style to the surface of their skirt.

To open the show, a group of boarders choreographed a dance routine to start the ‘colour run’ themed show off with a bang. Colours and combinations included majestic gold, a loud combination of clashing colours, and classic white, which were all displayed through a wide variety of pieces: from neckpieces and scarves to clothes donated from high street brand Oasis.

The fashion show generated £468 from the voluntary contributions at the end of the show, for our school’s Sister Christopher Bursary Fund, and for the Teenage Cancer Trust, in memory of talented former A Level Textiles student, Grace Deng, who sadly lost her battle with cancer at the age of 19.
