A Roman holiday for Classics students
Students in Year 11 to Upper Sixth had a very enjoyable and educational trip to Rome with the Classics department over Easter. The group had a busy three days exploring the ancient sites, with highlights including learning about Roman imperial history at the Ara Pacis, and imagining the lives of the ancient Romans while exploring the Colosseum, the Forum and the Pantheon. The girls also visited the archaeological site of Ostia, a well preserved ancient harbour town near Rome. The students appreciated the opportunity to view sites they have studied, and apply their knowledge of topics such as chariot racing and gladiatorial contests to the buildings and ruins. The girls also very much enjoyed sampling local pizza and gelati! The weather was wonderful, and the hotel staff wrote to inform the school that the girls were the best school group to stay at the hotel in years.
