St Mary’s embraces new technology for safer school runs

From September, St Mary’s will be one of the first schools in Cambridgeshire to use a cutting-edge app, Kura, to ensure that the school bus runs safely and reliably. Our minibus shuttle service will be linked to an app, allowing students and parents to book seats, track routes and receive live updates. The app sends alerts when students board and depart from the bus, adding new transparency to the school route. Students will be one step ahead of traffic and parents will be granted new peace of mind.  

Led by the Operations Manager, Greg Ball, the shift to Kura forms part of this year’s travel plan, which also introduces a new route to and from Saffron Walden, to attend to the needs of incoming and current students. This will run alongside the existing routes to and from Babraham Park and Ride, Cambourne and Madingley Park and Ride, and Trumpington Park and Ride. The app will also help the school to adjust its routes to best serve students and parents in the future. 

This partnership with Kura not only supports St Mary’s commitment to creativity and enterprise, but to developing global citizens, with a sense of responsibility towards both local and world-wide communities.

By encouraging shared transport, Kura aims to reduce overall traffic and cut CO2 emissions, putting the planet first. This new technology will make our school run safer, more efficient and more sustainable than ever before. St Mary’s students also lead environmental initiatives such as the Eco-Council, which empowers girls to be leaders of sustainability and biodiversity in our community.
