Students venture into Investment Banking
Students in Year 11 and 12 ventured into banking this month, with insider knowledge from an Investment Banking expert, Mr Amandeep Bassi.
During one of the Sixth Form's engaging and insightful "Inspire my Future" talks, Mr Bassi shared his expertise, starting with a clear breakdown of the three key areas of Investment Banking - front, middle, and back office - and going on to explain how roles within these divisions differ.
Students gained valuable insight into risk management roles and how these have expanded significantly since the global financial crisis. They explored the creativity that accounting within banking offers, such as that offered by hedge funding. Mr Bassi answered questions on university courses that support entry into the profession, and the types of experience that students should pursue alongside their A Level study to enhance their prospects.
He emphasised the importance of research, work experience, and financial literature such as that offered by The Financial Times. Mr Bassi also discussed the value of taking the time to explore the vast amount of information published on different bank websites.
Essential skills for success in this field were shared, including problem-solving, collaboration, and confidence within interviews. The talk concluded with an encouraging discussion on the strong representation of women within investment banking, highlighting specific examples of women who had successfully secured high-level positions.
