St Mary's Sixth Formers excel in the Rotary Club Young Photographer Competition

St Mary's Sixth Formers have captured their photographic talent in the Rotary Club Young Photographer Competition with images that express their personal interpretation of a theme.

Organised by The Rotary Club of Cambridge in collaboration with the Cambridge Independent Newspaper and the Cambridge Camera Club, the competition invites young photographers to explore the theme of 'Rebuilding' in its myriad interpretations. From traditional to digital methods, participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity and express their unique perspectives through the lens of a camera.

The essence of 'Rebuilding' is not confined to a singular definition but rather serves as a canvas for young photographers to articulate their visions and narratives. It offers a broad spectrum of possibilities, allowing participants to delve into personal experiences, societal narratives, or abstract concepts, reflecting the diverse spectrum of human resilience and renewal.

In this spirit of exploration and expression, we are thrilled to applaud the achievements of our A Level Photography students who have excelled in the Senior category (14 to 17 years old) of the competition. Grace M. received a Highly commended Award for her evocative photograph "Contemporary Nostalgia," while Sarah E.'s "Connectivity," Sarah W.'s "Identity," Siyan H.'s "Resilience renewed: Girl on a boat," and Chloe F.'s "World at your hands" are all commended for their outstanding creativity and vision.

Their remarkable works were featured in the pages of the Cambridge Independent on Wednesday 28 February, inviting the community to witness and celebrate the power of young artistic expression. A presentation of certificates will take place at Campkins Cameras, King's Parade, on Saturday 9 March. Congratulations to all our St Mary’s School participants for their dedication, passion, and exemplary contributions to the world of photography.
