St Mary’s celebrates student’s writing achievement
St Mary’s is celebrating the outstanding academic success of its Upper Sixth student, Amelie A., after an essay she has written about Virginia Woolf’s novel – Mrs Dalloway – was selected to be published in an upcoming issue of the English and Media Centre’s ‘emagazine’. Amelie’s work and the confidence she showed in contacting the publication to pitch her essay idea, is a shining example of hard work and excellence, one of the twelve Mary Ward values that we instill in our students.
Amelie’s essay explores the way in which domestic spaces in the novel define Clarissa Dalloway’s womanhood and sense of identity, and the evolving freedoms of 20th Century women.
Supported by St Mary’s English teacher, Olympia Severis, Amelie proactively submitted her essay idea for the publication’s consideration. Her dedication was rewarded when she was asked to draft a 1500-word essay. Feedback on the final draft was incredibly positive with the editor commenting on its quality. Amelie’s essay will be published in an upcoming issue of emagazine and she will get paid for her contribution.
