Celebrating Our Year 12 Art Students: Triumph at Michaelhouse Café Exhibition

We are delighted to announce that our Year 12 art students were selected to exhibit their outstanding work at Michaelhouse Café from 26 May to 9 June 2024. This exclusive exhibition, curated by the prestigious Cantab and Granta Arts Societies, showcases the exceptional talent of Sixth Form students in the Cambridgeshire area, promoting wider participation in the visual arts.

We are immensely proud to share that two of our Year 12 students have achieved notable accolades in this esteemed competition. Melody L was awarded 'Most Original' for her captivating artwork titled ‘Mountain Contours.’ This piece, characterised by its innovative approach and intricate design, impressed the judges with its originality and artistic vision. Melody stated:

‘I found inspiration for my work from Chinese mountainous landscapes, and I wanted to interpret this in a unique and stylised way. I’m very happy my efforts were recognised by Cantab and Granta Arts Societies.’

Melody's sumission titled 'Mountain Contours'.

Alice H received the 'Highly Commended' award for her evocative artwork, ‘Hiding.’ Alice's piece was recognised for its profound emotional depth and technical excellence, highlighting her exceptional skill and creativity. Alice remarked:

‘I’m so pleased at winning this award- it’s been wonderful to know that my drawing skill has been recognised beyond the classroom and to have my work publicly exhibited is an honour’.

"I couldn't be prouder of Melody and Alice's achievements. Their creativity and dedication have truly shone through. Our Year 12 students have shown remarkable talent, and it's incredibly important for their artwork to reach a wider audience beyond the school walls and be exhibited publicly. This recognition at Michaelhouse Café is a testament to their hard work and the vibrant artistic community we have cultivated here in Studio 47 at St Mary’s."
