Virtual trips encounter inspiring International Women from all around the world

Virtual trips encounter inspiring International Women from all around the world

Students in Senior School and Sixth Form hit the open (virtual) road, to take e-adventures across the world, encountering inspiring female role models along the way ahead of International Women's Day on 8 March.

Following the success of recent off-screen enrichment days, we were keen to close Lockdown III with another opportunity to learn creatively, independently and collaboratively in a series of virtual school trips.

Launched with a whole school assembly, each Year group embarked on adventures in a unique location. Every trip highlighted inspiring women, both past and present, who have made an impact in their country and beyond. From Shidzue Katō (1897-2001) the first women elected to the Japanese parliament to Bessie Coleman (1892-1926) the first black female pilot in the world, Ruth Bader Ginsburg of US Supreme Court fame, and Laurie Anderson, artist, composer, musician and film director. There was plenty of inspiration for all!

Years 7 and 8 covered the most e-miles in their tours of the Seven Wonders of the World, whilst Year 9 explored 'Brilliant Britain'. Year 10 headed to Australia and Year 11 Japan, leaving Sixth Form to experience fabulous New York. Every student was provided with a series of virtual resources, to explore their destination. For example, in Japan students enjoyed virtual Cherry Blossom Tours, explored Mount Fufi - including the view from the top, and toured historic artefacts in Tokyo Museum.

Head of Sixth Form, Ruth Taylor commented: "We were delighted to introduce our Virtual Trips Day, and the day of varied challenges and activities brought some of the unique benefits that exploring new places and ideas bring. By learning about different inspiring role female role models in each location, we shared a huge variety of ways in which successful women have made a difference to the world."
