Theatrical key change

On Wednesday 9 November our GCSE and A Level Drama students were fortunate to see Key Change at the Mumford Theatre, Cambridge, Winner of The Carol Tambor 'Best of Edinburgh' Award 2015, and a production given the prestigious New York Times’ Critics’ Pick.

Devised with women in Her Majesty's Prison, Low Newton, to tour to male prisons, Key Change carries the stories of some of the UK’s most marginalised women over the razor wire through an intense, raw and illuminating portrayal of women in prison.

Excited by the reviews (see below), the girls were not disappointed! Our students, who are all embarking on devising projects themselves, saw a creative approach to theatre, which highlights the importance of research and development of drama from real-life stories. The staging was simple, yet highly effective, with inventive use of space, created with masking tape, narration and the audience’s imagination. Buzzing with ideas, the girls will be experimenting in class with ensemble movement and story-telling.
