Successful Duke of Edinburgh Silver Practice Expedition in the Yorkshire Dales
On a very wet Saturday on 13 October, 29 Year 11 girls, as well as the 'Mary Ward' shoes, set off to the Yorkshire Dales to complete their Silver practice expedition. They completed a very wet acclimatisation walk on Saturday afternoon that included splashing through lots of muddy puddles before spending the evening in Hawes youth hostel. On Sunday the weather in Yorkshire became much better compared to the weather in Cambridge, so the groups were able to complete their day 1 and 2 walks in relatively dry conditions and were able to pitch their tents in dry, but rather cold conditions. The standard of navigation was good and their campsite cooking was inventive, particularly when it came to dessert. The final day was wetter but all groups met up at Castle Bolton and we returned to Cambridge on Tuesday evening, having had a really successful expedition that was not nearly as wet or windy as we had expected.
