St Mary’s rowing club achieves British Rowing Affiliation

St Mary’s School is proud to announce its Rowing Club has been officially recognised as British Rowing Affiliated. This major milestone opens up a wealth of opportunities to the school’s rowing team, allowing pupils to take part in larger national competitions and to utilise support and resources only available to British Affiliated clubs.

St Mary’s Rowing Club has grown in strength and size – now boasting a wealth of members. Under the umbrella of City of Cambridge Rowing Club, which it shares boathouse space with, St Mary’s has built up a strong reputation in the rowing community, competing in various races. However, now the school is British Rowing Affiliated, it will have St Mary’s blade colours – giving the team its own identity.

Clubs affiliated to British Rowing have to demonstrate they are well run, safe and follow good governance and procedures. Through the annual process of club affiliation, the organisation offers support, recognition and tools for member clubs to access. Affiliated clubs are also recognised as a voting member of the organisation, which gives them a say in the running of the sport at a national and regional level.

Oliver Frazer, Head of Rowing at St Mary’s School, said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be affiliated by British Rowing. It’s a real testament to the hard work the team has put in and is a huge step forward for us. We can’t wait to showcase our skills in national competitions and look forward to unveiling our blade colours in due course.”

Rowing at St Mary’s is open to all girls in Year 7-13. The school has state-of-the-art facilities and coaching at the boathouse it shares with City of Cambridge Rowing Club, situated at the heart of the River Cam rowing community.
