Senior students’ regatta success
St Mary’s School is proud of talented athletes, Year 10 student, Lucy T., and Year 11 pupil, Abby H., who won their race with the Cantabrigian Rowing Club at the Sudbury Regatta on Friars Meadow on 7 August.
This marked the 140th anniversary of the event, during which over 250 competitors took part in 166 races. Despite the unpredictable weather, punctuated by bouts of bright sun, rain and even thunder, the meadows filled with visiting clubs, rowers, boats and spectators. Lucy and Abby joined the Junior 15 squad on the 650m Rowing course – an upstream race with some challenging bends—to take first place.
Their victory was well-deserved, following a rigorous programme of competitions, having also recently raced in Peterborough Summer Regatta and the British Rowing Junior Championship in Nottingham. Their winning streak continued this weekend, as they won their first heat at the Lea Autumn Regatta.
We wish them every success at the Cambridge '99 Autumn Regatta this coming weekend, and hope that they will be representing the school in races soon, following the break in school competitions during the pandemic.
