Lower Sixth Art and Photography trip

On Tuesday 19 January our Lower Sixth Art and Photography students journeyed to London, accompanied by Miss Clare McEwan and Mr Wade Melville, to visit two art galleries. The trip provided an opportunity for the girls to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the work of artists both past and present.

In the morning the group went to The Saatchi Gallery to see the ‘Champagne Life’ exhibition – celebrating the 30th birthday of The Saatchi Gallery, and the first exhibition ever to only feature the works of women. The girls heard an interesting and informative lecture which highlighted the meaning behind some of the pieces displayed in the exhibition. The group also went to the ‘Revelations’ exhibition, which consisted of work by the Russian Artist Aidan Salakhova. Both exhibitions were fascinating and contained some thought-provoking art.

In the afternoon the group visited The National Portrait Gallery, where the Photography students saw The Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize, while the Art and Design students explored the permanent collection of paintings and drawings around the gallery.

The day was fun and inspiring and enhanced the students’ understanding of the subjects.
