International art prize winner

International art prize winner

Year 9’s Isla T. has won third prize for her entry in The HART Prize for Human Rights, a competition for young people with a passion for global affairs and current human rights issues.

Isla’s powerful painting, Stolen Childhood, depicts a child soldier in Uganda, where rebel groups abduct children and force them to fight, sometimes against their own families. Isla says, “I tried to capture the fear, sadness and loneliness of the boy in the painting. He should be at school and playing with his friends not carrying a gun."

The judges said there were an astonishing number of entries from schools all over the UK and abroad for this prestigious prize. We are very proud of Isla’s achievement.
