Careers Fair opens its doors to a whole host of opportunities

On Tuesday 11 October, the halls at St Mary’s were once again buzzing with a host of higher education establishments and international, national and local employers, all keen to showcase their career opportunities.  

More than 40 representatives from universities, law, architecture and banking, to name just a few, were on hand to answer questions from our enquiring Year 9 to Sixth Form students.  

Cambridgeshire Police were particularly well represented by Helena Campbell, former Head Girl at St Mary’s from 2013-14.  

Hannah Murray, promoting Mott McDonald, is also a former St Mary’s student and came across her future chosen career with them while at one of our previous open days.

She remembers speaking to their team, went on to have a day of work experience and then take a degree in Geography before embarking on a career with Mott McDonald.  

Kate Mead, Head of Careers, said:  

“We were delighted to be once again offering such an opportunity for students to meet their potential futures face to face, and also to welcome back two of our previous students as ambassadors of their own careers.”  

The careers fair has clearly been a valuable opportunity for girls to get industry-specific advice and benefit from the considerable experience present in the room. All stands were busy with a constant stream of curious minds – even the Better Origin representatives with their handfuls of black soldier fly larvae and jar of hatched soldier flies fresh from an insect farm which processes food waste to reduce emissions.
