Cambridge Style Week

Cambridge Style Week

This week has been a celebration of style across Cambridge for Cambridge Style Week. As part of the event, and in collaboration with Cambridge BID, the Textiles department at St Mary’s School, Cambridge was invited to submit students’ A Level Textile work to be used in a ‘Fashion Trail’ around the city. The work of two of our alumnae was displayed as part of the trail: Emily Windsor and Phoebe Ward, who completed their A Levels last summer and have now both gone on to continue their studies, produced the pieces as part of their Textiles coursework last year. The girls created the pieces as final responses to research into specific themes, producing a sketchbook of their ideas and experimenting with a number of fabrics before creating the finished products.

Selected retail businesses in Cambridge city centre displayed Phoebe and Emily’s pieces, with the aim of creating a buzz in the city whilst bringing fashion students together with local businesses. The girls’ pieces of work were exhibited in the following locations:

• Emily’s ‘Carnival’ in Primavera, Kings Parade, ‘Clock’ in CallyCo, Pea’s Hill, and ‘Mythology’ in Finn Jordan, Sussex Street.

• Phoebe’s ‘Monet inspired’ in Elegant Atelier, Rose Crescent,‘Reflective Surfaces’ in Baska, Magdalene Street, and ‘Punk inspired’ in Petrus, Bridge Street.

Mrs Anna Ladds, Head of Technology, commented: “We are delighted that our Textiles department was asked to be involved with Cambridge Style Week again this year and that our students’ final work could be enjoyed by the wider community in Cambridge.”
