A weekend in the boarding house

A weekend in the boarding house

Friday fun for boarders

Friday night is the perfect time for fun with friends, and that’s certainly how our Lower Sixth boarders enjoyed their evening on Friday 8 January. Tension mounted in the Bateman House common room as several of the girls attempted to create a House of Cards. Staff and girls held their breath as the top two cards were carefully placed on the pyramid of playing cards, the tension soon shattered by bursts of laughter as the creation collapsed, and the architect was forced to begin her task again. Perseverance won the evening and several impressive structures were completed and stood firm long enough to be claimed as successes.

Botany boarders

At the weekend 15 of our Year 9 boarders paid a visit to the Cambridge University Botanic Garden. Opened in 1846, the garden boasts vibrant seasonal plant life and is the perfect place to explore and learn, whatever time of year. The girls began their visit exploring the glass houses that harbour many interesting examples of exotic plant life – which range over many different continents, including the Oceanic Islands – and displays of wetlands and a tropical rainforest. The group then took a brisk walk to explore the grounds; spying beehives and winter-plant life, such as snowdrops, along the way, before taking a seat by the pond to watch ducks and birds. The visit ended with a trip to the garden’s charming gift shop, which sells a number of treats produced from the garden itself.
