Year 3 pupils learn about rocks and soil at the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences

This week Year 3 pupils had a lovely time visiting the Sedgwick Museum of Earth Sciences to complement their science topic – rocks and soil. We were met by facilitator and geologist Nicola Skipper, who guided the girls to explore the museum’s collection of fossils, rocks and crystals, before giving them a hands-on workshop on identifying rocks.

Our highlights included finding a rock from the top of Mount Everest, visiting the ‘crystals’ room and watching a live map of earthquakes around the world.

When back at school, the girls wrote reviews of their trip, here is some of what they had to say:

"I learned that Hawaii is a ginormous volcano!"

"There was an amazing fossil of a dinosaur with a super long tail, right in the entrance!"

"Go and see the crystals, because they are so beautiful and pretty!"
