Year 3 investigate the importance of the elements in nurturing living things

As this half-term comes to an end, the girls in Year 3 have been consolidating their learning through in-depth discussions and investigations within their Science and Humanities lessons.

In Science, the girls took time to explore what happened to the different plants we had since the fourth week of the term.  We had four plants for our experiment and studied what happened if we eliminated specific elements from each plant - one plant watered but had no sunlight, one plant had sunlight but no water, one plant had no water and no sunlight, and the final plant had both water and sunlight.  What we found was interesting and it helped us explore further the need for each element (sunlight and water) for a plant to survive.  We connected this investigation further into the life cycle of flowering plants, with a little help from Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Finally, the girls finished their study of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings with a look at the last Anglo-Saxon kings, including the terrible end of King Harold II and the rise of William the Conqueror.

It has been a great half-term and Year 3 is looking forward to a well-deserved break.
