Lower the chocolate drawbridge!

This term, lessons on the Normans have captured the imaginations of the Year 4 students. This week, Aria M. made an astonishing cake in the shape of a castle for her homework on the Normans.

The cake took the form of a Norman motte and bailey castle. The keep, complete with chocolate brickwork and a draw bridge, sat on top of the artificial hill known as a ‘motte’. Below was the bailey, an enclosed courtyard, built in biscuit with a cobbled path and surrounded by a chocolate finger palisade, or fence.

The result was a well-researched and delicious model that was almost too good to eat. After taking plenty of pictures, the girls enjoyed an afternoon slice of the cake while reading in the afternoon.
