Fairtrade Fortnight at the Junior School
The items being sold at our Fairtrade stall during Fairtrade Fortnight were so popular that we had to replenish our supplies! Among the very popular items on sale were dried fruits -mango, pineapple, and pineapple passion - from local company Storimarket. On Thursday afternoon, Years 4-6 were lucky enough to hear from a presentation from one of the founders of this company, Tom Ellum. He not only spoke to the girls about the principles of Fairtrade, but he also showed them footage and photos of the farms from which Storimarket’s products are produced. It was a rare opportunity for all of us to hear the names and stories of the farmers responsible for producing the food that we are eating. The girls were fully engaged and asked many thoughtful questions about Fairtrade and ethical production.
