Daniel Zeichner MP visits Year 6

Daniel Zeichner MP visits Year 6

On Friday 9 September we were very privileged to welcome Mr Daniel Zeichner, Labour MP for Cambridge, to the Junior School. Laura K., Year 6 pupil, wrote to Mr Zeichner last year to invite him into the school to speak to her year group about what it was like to be an MP. We were grateful that Mr Zeichner spared the time to come in to talk to the girls. The year group had prepared some insightful, interesting and sometimes hard to answer questions for the MP, including:

  • What is the biggest political problem in England?
  • Do you think you can really make a difference?
  • What do you think makes a good MP?
  • What's the worst thing about leaving the EU?
  • Why was there a referendum?
  • What strange traditions are there in parliament?

Mr Zeichner affirmed that “yes, we can definitely make a difference!” and cited Laura's letter to him, which resulted in his visit today, as how you can make a difference. The girls all participated in the lively discussion and there is talk of a visit to parliament in the future as part of more in-depth learning on democracy.

On another exciting note, Mr Zeichner had a TV crew with him from ITV Anglia who have been following him today for a 'Day in the life' feature, which is due to air next month - watch this space!
