Chinese good fortune

Hot summer weather provided the perfect conditions to explore Chinese pond culture in last week’s Mandarin lesson.

Students in Year 5 and 6 learned that in China goldfish are lucky symbols, representing wealth and prosperity, and that waterlilies symbolise peace. The girls explored traditional Chinese culture with both art and writing, each starting a Chinese summer pond drawing with 金鱼 (goldfish) in Mandarin.
