Lourdes fundraising fortnight brings out top dogs and dodgeball

Our traditional fundraising fortnight at St Mary’s came to a successful conclusion this week, with various fun activities taking place to raise vital funds for The Glanfield Children's Group summer pilgrimage-holiday to Lourdes, France.

Always a popular event in the school calendar, St Mary’s students enjoy participating in a variety of activities to raise money to help sick, disabled and disadvantaged children that travel with The Glanfield Children’s Group to Lourdes to experience a trip of a lifetime. The Glanfield Children’s Group also helps adults with learning difficulties.

The Lourdes Fundraising Fortnight began on Monday 13 March, with fundraising activities including bake sales, staff dodgeball and the ever popular ‘Sponge the Teacher’ event – which gives students the chance to throw wet sponges at a host of willing teachers. In the second week we also enjoyed a ‘Teachers Got Talent’ event; a Year 9 Talent Show; a guess the number of sweets in the jar competition; a non-uniform day; and bacon and sausage bap sales and the highlight of the fortnight, our much-loved annual dog show, which took place on Friday 24 March.

Since 1987, The Glanfield Children’s Group, along with the Catholic Association, has organised a pilgrimage holiday every August to the French town of Lourdes. The trip allows people with disabilities, and their families, to undertake a life-changing experience of fun, faith and friendship. Where possible, the group also tries to offer ongoing support to families throughout the year.

We thank all of our students and their families for all that they do to support this important aspect of the school's charitable work and look forward to another week of fundraising excitement.
