How to be a 21st century parent
On the evening of 13 September we were pleased to welcome parenting guru and founder of Parenting People, Judy Reith to school to give a lecture to 40 of the school’s family and friends. Judy regularly offers coaching, courses and workshops to any parent wanting to be more confident, calm, fun and less stressed, worried or sad about parenting their children, at any stage.
Judy gave an insightful talk for two hours on the hottest September evening in recollection on: risk taking, resilience, relationships, and reflection. She highlighted that it is important, for instance when asking your children how their day was, to clearly demonstrate to them that what they have to say is important – put away distractions even if just for a few moments. The talk was very well received and left many of the parents feeling they had benefitted from an MOT on parenting, and wanting more advice and further seminars.
There are two more opportunities to attend parenting talks, both of which come highly recommended:
- Parenting Teenagers is taking place throughout this term, with three further evenings scheduled as part of the series, hosted by another excellent local provider. The series is free of charge – click here for more information.
- An evening of discussion and advice for parents of high performance sporting children is also taking place this term, on Wednesday 2 November, at Cambridge University Women’s Boat Club, with Eira Parry, former Talent Development Coach for GB Rowing. Tickets for this event are £25 (but there is a £5 discount using code CUW16 if booked before 14 October) – click here for more information.
