Students turn seed money into profits to bring nature into the classroom

Who needs The Apprentice on television when we have our own Year 9s demonstrating considerable entrepreneurial skills by turning a seed capital of £80 into an incredible £645?

Their task, set as part of their Autumn Outdoor Learning last October, was to bring nature into the classroom by raising money for some new indoor plants.

Four forms were each given a starter of £20 with which, through creativity and retail, they multiplied several times over. Their start-up businesses sold jewellery, drinks and sweets, with the students working collaboratively to bring in the profits.

With the money raised exceeding all expectations, the forms have also discussed contributing towards the earthquake emergency appeal, leaving them just enough to get one large plant for each form room when the form reps go to the garden centre in March.
