Saracens Mavericks weekend netball match is a winner with students

Our sportswomen enjoyed netball at its finest this weekend, at a Saracens Mavericks home match at the University of Hertfordshire.

Thirty of our Year 5-7 students watched the match, with 13 Year 7s enjoying the privilege of being on ball patrol. They sat courtside, ready to assist when the ball went off the court during the game. The remaining students were the guard of honour for the Mavericks when they entered the court.

The Mavericks, who are, undoubtedly, hugely inspirational to many young netballers, stayed behind at the end of the match, for photos and autographs.

Louise Powell, Director of Sport, points out the importance of sports trips in the wider life of our students:

"Giving our students these opportunities to witness the dedication, determination and resilience that is needed to be an elite athlete helps them to aim high in their own sports performances and teaches them about the world of professional sport. They see, and gain inspiration from the many different opportunities within sport that they could pursue, from being a player to being a team physio, coach or manager. We cannot underestimate how much students value sports trips: they are great fun and open the girls eyes to the endless possibilities that can come from having a love of sport."
