Junior School summer sport review
Pupils in Junior School have enjoyed a particularly exciting Summer Term with lots of opportunities for participation and activity for all.
All pupils in Years 3 to 6 have been working with Mr Scarff, our new specialist cricket coach, in their games lessons, making good progress with their range of basic skills. This has also been the first year in which some of the girls have played competitively against local schools, and we very much look forward to building on this again next year.
Pupils covered other summer sports such as athletics and tennis, and Years 3 and 4 had the opportunity to access an externally-led tennis coaching session in which they played new, exciting games and had lots of fun.
A huge number of pupils have also enjoyed attending extra-curricular sports clubs. These include a popular new Cheerleading Club, in which the girls have very proudly developed their own St Mary's ‘cheer’!
The spirit in which all girls participate and join in is always heartwarming to see, and we are aiming to offer a different range of clubs throughout the next academic year, so watch this space!
Athletics Club has also been popular and has involved running, jumping, and throwing activities at Long Road. Our Under 11s Team attended a Prep Schools event hosted by St Faiths School, and a number of students (pictured right) will compete in the prestigious IAPS competitions in the coming weeks.
We are very much looking forward to hosting our upcoming Junior Sports Day events at our Long Road facilities. In line with ‘National School Sports Week’ and with the aim that 'there is a place for every young person to belong in school sport, and have a role on sports day, the format will be slightly different to previous years. All pupils will participate in a wide range of physical activities at the same time and will carousel around all activities - meaning lots of fun and inclusive activity for all.
Our Sports Days will be led by our Senior School sports scholars, providing a valuable opportunity to put their leadership skills to the test and to work collaboratively with younger pupils.
