From our Bursar

2021/22 has been another exciting and successful year for St Mary’s.

Globally, there have, of course, been many challenges, but I am proud to reflect on the progress that we continue to make in ensuring that St Mary’s provides an outstanding environment in which our whole community may thrive.

During the Autumn Term, we welcomed our first girls into the new Preschool at Chaucer Road, followed by the opening of the Junior School STEM Lab in the Spring, part-funded by a Senior School alumna!

You can read more about our STEM initiatives in our latest issue of Accolade.

Long Road in full action

Spring saw the official opening of our Long Road sports ground, with England Netball player, Francesca Williams, cutting the ribbon to open the doors to the completed pavilion building – the final phase of this key partnership with Homerton College.

Looking ahead

Senior School Development - Architect's ImageHaving held back our ambitious plans for investment in the Senior School estates during the pandemic, I am delighted to confirm that the planning permissions secured in Spring 2020 are now firmly back on the table – with implementation due to commence this summer.

This ambitious building programme will, in measured phases, see the buildings transformed on Bateman Street to provide additional classrooms, student breakout rooms, new dining and kitchen facilities, new parent meeting facilities, and a new lift – all accessed via a beautifully remodeled Reception area and landscaped facade.

As I write, we are in the process of appointing the main contractor, with a view to works commencing on site in July 2022.
